Today’s Motivation END OF THE MYTH OF MULTITASKING

END OF THE MYTH OF MULTITASKING

The ad read “must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment”
and you think you’re very good at multitasking. Human multitasking
is the performance by an individual appearing to handle more than
one task at a time. There is good news today and there is bad news.

If you are a computer you can actually perform multiple tasks at the
same time and do it very efficiently. If you are a human you can
actually perform ONE task at a time and do it very efficiently.

Multitasking can result in time wasted due to human context switching
causing more errors due to insufficient attention. A human cannot
effectively listen to an interview and type an unrelated email at the
same time and expect peak performance at both.

The good news is, as a human, you can do the one thing you are doing
at the moment very well and then move on to the next task. Excellence
and impeccability are their own rewards.

YOU DID YOUR BEST!

Since you’re going to do something you might as well do it right.
If you’re going to work today, you might as well do your very best
while on the job. If you’re going to build a relationship, you might
as well make it a lasting, healthy and happy one. As long as you’ve
got to drive today, you might as well make it a pleasant and safe ride.

If you’re going to do anything you’ll find that it doesn’t take that
much more effort to do the best you possibly can. Give it all you’ve
got so you know in your heart of hearts that the best in you showed
up today. When so many are willing to settle, rising above the crowd
really only takes 100%.

Throw yourself fully into everything you do. Do it with excellence.
Do complete work. Be diligent in your follow up. It’s a matter of an
attitude with honor. Look in the mirror to acknowledge you did your
best.

“Innovate. Innovation distinguishes a leader from a follower. Delegate. Let
other top executives do 50% of your routine work to be able to spend 50%
your time on the new stuff. Say no to 1,000 things to make sure you don’t
get on the wrong track or try to do too much. Concentrate on really im-
portant creations and radical innovation. Hire people who want to make
the best things in the world. You need a very product-oriented culture,
even in a technology company. Lots of companies have tons of great
engineers and smart people. But ultimately, there needs to be some gravi-
tational force that pulls it all together.”

You cannot be a leader by following others. The view is always the same.
Step out in front with new ideas. Free your time to develop, formulate,
conceive and evolve. Align yourself and your organization with the people 

destine to excel. Let inspiration pull it all together.

“People judge you by your performance, so focus on the
outcome. Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t
used to an environment where excellence is expected.
Advertise. If they don’t know about it, they won’t buy
your product. Pay attention to design. We made the
buttons on the screen look so good you’ll want to lick
them. Design is not just what it looks like and feels like.
Design is how it works.”

Do you come through for people? Do you produce tangible
results?  The little thing do count, the detail, the quality.
Let people know about what you do, who you are, the
excellence you produce.  People are going to judge you
anyway, why not give them something juicy to judge you
upon?
